Illegal mining continues in UT due to faulty policies | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 12: With Government decision on mining drawing flake in J&K UT, the illegal mining has been on increase in various parts of UT with mining mafia indulging in illegal mining from various rivers and stream basins in Jammu region. The dozens of tractors, tippers, dumpers and mules carrying illegal sand and gravel for sale in different parts of Jammu region. As authorities have tightened it’s noose on illegal mining daily dozens of vehicles carrying illegal construction material are seized by police in different parts of Jammu region. Only yesterday Kathua police seized in Basohli area. Besides daily dozens of vehicles are seized in different parts of the region daily. Sources said with imposition of ban the construction material is not available to people in the UT and people are facing problems. This has also affected construction works especially developmental projects. Moreover the non-availability of construction material has led to people’s problems as the suppliers have increased the rate which has hit the common man. Sources said even the tipper and dumper operators have also become idle after the ban. Recently a protest was held by the tipper Association at Samba demanding lifting the ban. The Government decision according to sources has added to woes of Government contractors who are unable to complete the developmental works in stipulated time due to ban. |
