Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Feb 23: Barring north Kashmir, weather on Tuesday turned pleasant as bright sunshine greeted people in the summer capital, Srinagar and other parts of valley after early morning light rain.
Meanwhile, the night temperature improved further and settled several degrees above normal across Kashmir valley, where rain and snow is predicted from Tuesday till the next five days under the influence of two fresh Western Disturbances (WDs).
A Met department spokesperson told that light snow and rain could occur at most places in Kashmir valley on Tuesday under the influence of a WD, which is active in the region. "Another WD, which originated from the Arabian Sea and is approaching the region though Afghanistan and Pakistan, will hit the region in coming days," he said.
He said under the influence of these two WD, scattered to widespread rain and snow would occur in J&K from Monday night to February end. "This system is most likely to affect North Kashmir, extreme western Ladakh during the next one day," he said, adding central, south Kashmir, Pirpanjal and Jammu region will be affected from February 25 onwards.
He said heavy rain and snow would occur at some places on February 26 and February 2&. "Due to the weather, fight may be disrupted at Srinagar international airport during these two days," he added.
The weather was chilly during the day at the world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, which is covered under several feet of snow, due to early morning rain and overcast conditions. The ski resort, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, was the only place in the valley where the mercury dipped though settled above normal. Against 0.6 degree recorded on Monday, the night temperature at Gulmarg settled at zero degree, which is about 7 degree above normal.
