| Striking SRTC employees get some festive bonanza | | Strike ends as salaries releases, COLA agreed | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sept 21: In a much awaited respite ahead of the holy festival of Navratras followed by Eid and Diwali, the government has released salaries of the employees of the public sector State Road Transport Corporation. According an official spokesman the SRTC employees have called off their strike after the Government released the salaries and sanctioned the slabs of Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) in favour of the employees with effect from April 1, 2008. Decision to release the salaries and sanction the COLA was taken at a high level meeting chaired by Governor, Mr N N Vohra, in Srinagar. The Governor reviewed the financial status of the Corporation and directed setting up of a Committee under the Financial Commissioner, Planning and Development, to look into the factors responsible for the present financial crisis. The Committee will propose the ways and means for a comprehensive restructuring of the Corporation, to be completed by March next year, after a thorough study of other State Transport Undertakings in the country. The meeting also discussed the problems of the State Road Transport Corporation. Present in the meeting were, the Advisor to Governor, Mr H H Tyabji, Financial Commissioner, Planning & Development, Mr S L Bhat, Principal Secretary to Governor, Mr B B Vyas, Commissioner/Secretary Transport, Mr Dilip Singh and Managing Director, SRTC, Mr Manzoor Ahmed Lone. Later, a four-member delegation of SRTC Workers' Union, led by Mr Shakeel Ahmed, called on the Governor and expressed gratitude for resolving their problems. |
