Rules Are Rules
3/4/2021 12:19:06 AM
A tehsildar visiting a government school in Khour area of Rajouri district and finding a principal unauthorizedly absent from duty has created a notion that officials posted in rural areas, especially in schools, take everything for granted. Such people need to be told in clear terms that rules are rules and they cannot break these.
The head of an institution remaining absent from duty is unacceptable. The people who hold the charge have to ensure that others fall in the line but when a head of an institution himself creates indiscipline what can one expect from his subordinates?
Last month Rajouri administration had issued an order asking the teachers to get their attendance certificates signed by sarpanchs. The attendance certificate was made mandatory for releasing salaries of teachers. The order was criticized by many teachers associations and it was termed as an assault on the integrity of the entire teaching community. But it seems that the order was issued after getting a proper feedback from the ground.
Teachers and principals, who work in the far flung areas have to ensure that they reach the schools on time and teach the students, who have no other option other than taking an admission in the government schools.
The principal who was found absent should be taken to task so that it serves as an eye opener for others. Precedence needs to be set to make the government employees understand the value of their jobs.
Students in rural areas cannot be allowed to suffer due to a few people who seem to be hell bent upon maligning the entire teaching community.
The government needs to take more effective steps to make the teachers and principals posted in the far-flung areas accountable. Involving sarpanchs in the education system seems to be a good idea. They can act as watchdogs and if they find any discrepancy they can inform the higher ups accordingly.
The tehsildar Khour visited the government school after receiving complaints from the locals. The allegations that were leveled by the residents were found true. One hopes that the matter is not pushed under the carpet and the erring head of the school is dealt with sternly.
A few teachers being careless does not mean that all the teachers sail in the same boat. Ones who are creating indiscipline need to be identified and taken to task so that the students don’t suffer.
