Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Mar 8: Amid the reports of covid19 positive cases in some schools in the Kashmir division, the government Monday said that it is taking regular feedback and monitoring the situation.
"We are aware about these cases in some schools in Kashmir and are keeping a vigil on the situation," one of the top government officials told early this evening.
The official said that the government has given clear cut directions to the schools to avoid all such activities in which they could not maintain social distance.
"Although we have opened schools, it doesn't mean that situation (in regard to covid19) has normalized," he said wishing not to be named.
"We cannot keep schools closed forever but at the same time we have to remain guarded and understand that we have to take all precautionary measures as well," he added.
The schools resumed physical mode of education for 9th to 12th classes from March 1.
As already reported, an employee of a government high school in Srinagar, and seven staff members of a leading private school have tested covid19 positive.
In the wake of the covid19 positive cases being reported from schools, the parents have become apprehensive about the safety of their children.
The upper primary classes are set to resume from Monday, but the parents are worried about sending their wards to the schools after several teachers or staff have so far tested positive for deadly COVID-19 in the last one week.
Notably, Jammu and Kashmir is one among the States and Union Territories, where offline classes resumed after one year of pandemic. Bihar, Meghalaya, Haryana are also among the States where offline classes have resumed.
The varsities and colleges have already reopened in Jammu and Kashmir while high and higher secondary level schools are reopened from March 01.
Sources in the education department, said that the decision to reopen the primary and upper primary classes in phased manner was taken in wake of the COVID cases in the schools.
Meanwhile one of the top officials here in School education Kashmir said "Some elements are out to create panic for their vested interests. The situation is not like what is being pretended," the official said, adding that the situation is being monitored while teams have been formulated by the government for testing facilities for students and staff as well.
It is to mention here that Schools in the Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir were closed for at least three days due to the COVID-19 cases detected in the institutions in the district. The order was issued by the authorities of the district on March 7, 2021.
As per the letter issued by the three schools, the nodal officer for COVID-19 mitigation had advised the institution to close the school premises for at least three days considering the COVID-19 cases detected during random testing. The officials had also advised the primary and secondary contacts of persons who have been tested positive at the schools to self-isolate until the authorities conduct the COVID-19 tests on them.
