Pressure tactic fails, Mehbooba moves Delhi HC
Money laundering case
3/10/2021 12:41:51 AM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 9: As her pressure tactics failed to yield a desirable result, PDP president and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti has approached Delhi High Court seeking quashing of ED summons requiring her to appear before it on March 15 in connection with a money laundering case.
Notably the same Mehbooba Mufti on February 24 had pointed the finger towards the judicial system of the country for not granting bail to his close-aide Waheed Parra, who was arrested in connection with a terror case.
Mehbooba was very much aware that ED would summon her in the money laundering case so she has been adopting pressure tactics to pressurize the central agencies.
On December 31, 2020, Mehbooba Mufti had written a letter to the Director Enforcement Directorate in which she had questioned the legitimacy of the process.
In her letter Mehbooba pointed out, “the only common thread connecting these persons appears to be that they are all acquainted with me, my family or my politics in one way or another. The questioning of these persons is also focused on myself, my personal, political and financial affairs; my late father's grave and memorial, my sister's finances, home construction, my brother's finances and personal affairs etc”.
“I wish to notify you that as a responsible citizen and politician, a former chief minister and ex-Member of Parliament, and the daughter of one of the most illustrious public personalities in this country, I am ready and willing to face any questioning by any agency. But I will insist upon the legitimacy of the process”, Mehbooba had mentioned in her letter.
Sources said that Mehbooba was hoping that her pressure tactics would yield desirable results but of no avail. Instead of succumbing to her pressure tactics, ED had summoned Mehbooba Mufti to appear at Delhi on March 15 in a money laundering case.
Her petition states that she has not been informed if she is being summoned as an accused or as a witness. She has also not been informed of what she is being summoned in connection with, and the scheduled offence under the PMLA which gave rise to the proceedings in respect of which summons has been issued to her.
