Pouni to Bambla: Of 10 matadors, agent plies only 5 in a day to make fast money | Vehicles remain overloaded, locals aghast demand end to 'gundagardi' | | ajay sharma Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 26: Matadors plying from Pouni to Bambla in Reasi district remain overloaded all the time, residents told Early Times on Friday. They said that the distance between Pouni to Bambla is 20 kilometers and commuters face immense hardships while covering this stretch. "Authorities have given route permit to ten matadors to ply on this route but the agent who runs these vehicles on this route, makes only five matadors ply on this track," residents said. They said, "This leads to overloading and helps these transporters to earn good money. We are forced to sit on rooftop and hang on the staircase of these vehicles. We put our lives at stake to cover this distance as we have no other option." Recently, traffic policemen had set up a naka and had imposed a fine on one of the vehicles plying on this route. "This infuriated the agent and he created hue and cry about it. The agent believes that he is the boss and the buses have to ply according to his directions and no one has the power to interfere in his work," residents said. They demanded that the authorities should intervene and ensure that all the ten matadors that have been given the route permit should ply daily. "If only give matadors have to ply then the route permit of other five buses should be cancelled," residents added. When contacted Deputy Superintendent of Police said, "The old DTI has been transferred and the post is vacant but very soon a new officer will be sent to Pouni. We are looking into the complaints and action will be taken soon." |
