Night Curfew Returns | | | Amid rise in COVID-19 cases, Jammu and Kashmir Government has imposed "Corona night curfew" from 10 pm to 6 am in eight districts of the union territory. When the pandemic broke out last year, the country went into a lockdown mode to prevent the virus from spreading. The restrictions continued for a few months but eventually these were eased. The night curfew has returned to Jammu as the cases are increasing. It means nightlife in Jammu will again be stalled. But the decision has been taken for the benefit of people as the government wants people to remain safe. This phase will also pass. The surge in COVID-19 cases has created ripples in J&K. Medicos are claiming that the new variant of the virus has infiltrated into J&K and the situation can worsen in coming days. Experts have predicted that COVID second wave will peak by the end of this month. Night curfew is okay, but the big question is, are hospitals in Jammu region equipped to handle the crisis like situation which is likely to emerge if the cases keep on increasing. Have we got enough beds and ventilators to handle the critical patients? During the first COVID wave people in Jammu region had to face immense difficulties. From oxygen plants to beds nothing was in a proper shape in the hospitals. Many patients died from not getting the proper treatment at the appropriate time. To fight COVID-19 second wave besides imposing night curfew the government has set up many vaccination centers as the experts are of the opinion that the COVID-19 jabs help in fighting the virus. So protection is a must. As the COVID cases are increasing the authorities are making fervent appeals to the people to get themselves vaccinated so that we are able to fight the COVID from a better position. Last year when the pestilence broke out we were empty handed. This time around all of us are aware about the ways and means to fight the virus. No one wants lockdown to return but for that we have to ensure that we follow the COVID sops in letter and spirit. The containment zones have returned and there is a possibility of mini lockdowns being imposed in the areas where the number of cases will rise. The second wave has to be fought strategically. The measures being taken by the government are aimed at keeping the virus at bay and people need to cooperate. |
