Pakistan Sponsoring anti-India Propaganda
4/13/2021 12:24:53 AM

Ankush Verma

With a history and present marred with terrorism, violence, and political turmoil, Pakistan totally indifferent about its own image at the international level, is desperately busy making attempts to paint India’s image and democracy black in the west and Muslim world. Its target has always been to malign India’s image before the world by making false allegations and sponsoring anti-India agenda. It’s a matter of thinking that a country where there is widespread hunger, illiteracy, who is entirely dependent upon the foreign aid for its socio-economic development and whose economy is dwindling, is spending huge money on anti-India propaganda.
Since Pakistan has suffered political tumult from General Mohammad Ayub Khan’s coup d’etat in 1958 to the hanging of Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto in 1979 to the ouster of President Pervez Musharraf in 2008 and the rigged elections of 2018, India’s democracy has always been an eyesore for Pakistan. That is why Pakistan always tries to find new ways to spread lies and defame India on various international platforms.
Pakistan’s new anti-India propaganda is to project Indian democracy as shallow and a threat to world peace which is indigestible. Pakistan is spending massively on public relations and media to slander Indian democracy and project itself as a civilized, well-cultured, peace-loving, and humanitarian country that is a victim of India-directed terrorism.
The emergence of India as the world’s largest democracy and perhaps the most vibrant one post World War-II. India with linguistic, cultural, religious, ethnic, and geographical diversity has proved to the world the very own concept of unity in diversity is realistic. This basically is indigestible by Pakistan. The recent report of Freedom House, a US-based think tank that has called India’s democracy partly free is basically a part of Pakistan’s propaganda against India. Because Pakistan’s Foreign Missions keep in close touch with the elected legislators of the United States and Europe who sympathize with Pakistan and also influence the constituencies with Asian Muslim Majority. Thus, it is quite obvious that Pakistan has sponsored this propaganda from behind the veil. There have also been reports that Pakistan Consulate General (CG) in Manchester, gave gifts in kind to prominent British MPs to support its propaganda against India.
In the past also there have been incidents where the Pakistani diaspora has been extended material support by Pakistan to protest against India on different platforms in England, US, Europe and the Gulf.
Pakistan, especially under the new premier, is targeting Prime Minister Narender Modi by running social media propaganda against India using fake Arab, Christians, and Hindu Identities. In 2020 Pakistan used social media platforms like Twitter to project the Modi government as anti-Muslim. After investigation, Security agencies and independent social media users found that the hashtags like Islamophobia in India on Twitter were mostly sourced to bots, trolls, and people in Pakistan. This was done with an intention to generate anti-Modi sentiment in Gulf countries and create a wedge between India and its friends in the Middle East.
In this series to defame the Indian government, Munir Akram, Pakistan’s Ambassador at the United Nations misinformed the UN Security Council in January this year that the Bhartiya Janata Party ruling India has a violent and anti-Muslim ideology and pleaded to the UNSC that it must be outlawed like other terrorist groups. But Mr. Akram forgot that India’s ruling party, which he wants to be outlawed, got people’s mandate after a free and fair election under the country’s secular constitution. The party was not planted on unwilling people as the Pakistani Army forced the brutal Taliban with guns and bombs on helpless Afghans in 1996, or as it forced Pakistan’s Tehrik-e-Insaaf (PTI) of Imran Khan on the people of Pakistan by massively rigging July 2018 elections.
On the Kashmir issue also, Pakistan has been spreading lies about India in the world. It has always projected Kashmir is a “disputed territory” and advocates external agencies to intervene to resolve the Kashmir issue.
It’s also a part of Pakistan’s anti-India agenda to instigate the innocent Kashmiri for “azaadi” and wage a jihad against India. The world is very well familiar that Pakistan has sponsored a number of attacks on Indian territory to disrupt peace. In its efforts to subvert India Pakistan’s military and intelligence services have even providing covert training and financial support to Islamist militants and terrorists.
The core objective of Pakistan’s anti-India Propaganda is to demolish “Brand India” by assaulting India’s inclusive and secular society, democratic polity, decisive government, a developing economic powerhouse and strong foreign policy. Pakistan has been trying frantically to polarise society and disrupt social cohesion in India. Pakistan knows that this would have a cascading effect and it would adversely impact India’s secular and democratic credentials, scare foreign investment and lead to questions about its international image.
