CM secret fund case: ED to summon more PDP aides
4/14/2021 11:46:42 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

Jammu, Apr 14: Even as the Enforcement Directorate has got access to details of a diary purportedly maintained by then Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party, President, Mehbooba Mufti about expenditure of secret funds, the ED is likely to question more “aides” of the PDP in the case.
While Mehbooba Mufti was questioned by the ED in March 2020 over the expenditures made by her during her tenure, sources said the diary has shown that a considerable amount was spend on some of the party activities of the PDP.
It was reliably learnt that ED has inputs that the money may have been spent as “perks of the office bearers” of the PDP. Sources said it was being probed as to who all were the “office bearers” who got benefitted from the government money under the secret fund.
A senior official in the know of the matter said the Chief Minister’s secret fund is not meant to be spent on the activities of any political party but “for public good.” “How can the expenditure on party activities be justified in the secret fund. This is sheer misuse if not loot of public money,” said the official on the condition of anonymity.
Sources said the ED is preparing the list of the “probable beneficiaries” of the secret fund and that most of them would be questioned.
However, it was learnt that the role of one of the senior PDP leaders, who is presently under detention, cannot be ruled out in the “diversion of the funds into such activities that were even not remotely related to public work.”
It is pertinent to mention that ED has got access to the diary that was purportedly maintained by Mehbooba Mufti about how the secret fund was spend.
But Mehbooba Mufti has been refuting the charges of misuse of the secret fund adding that the ruling Bharatiya Janta Party at the center was resorting to arm-twisting tactics with her party and its leadership.
She, however, has maintained that such moves wouldn’t be able to force her to change her stand on the issue of the abrogation of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
