Entire lot of RT-PCR samples goes missing from Srinagar Hospital
Patients left high and dry, health authorities have no answers

Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 21: Call it an irony or something else. An entire lot of RTPCR test samples went mysteriously missing from one of Srinagar’s health centres, sending the people with COVID symptoms along with their families into tizzy.
Reports informed that the Lot No 102 of RTPCR test samples conducted on April 17, 2021 went missing from the lab records and the people from whom the samples were collected were left high and dry with no information about whether they have been positive or negative during the entire process.
One person hailing from Lal Bazar area of Srinagar said that he along with his kid went for the COVID-19 testing and samples for RAT as well as RTPCR were taken from them. “We had the COVID symptoms like fever and soar throat but we tested negative for RAT.
However, the medicos attending us at the Lal Bazar dispensary told us to go for home isolation till the RT-PCR report comes. That happened on April 17. Today is April 21 and there is no information about the test report. My son is mere 7-year old.
I have caged him in a room and we are desperately waiting for the RT PCR reports to arrive. While calling on the designated help lines, no body responds. This is what the system here looks like. It is pathetic to the core,” says the aggrieved.
Meanwhile, another lady from Zadibal shared the similar predicament.
While her RAT test was negative, she was asked to wait for the RT PCR to arrive. As she has been waiting for the past five days, there is no information about the report’s arrival. “What if I am COVID positive? What if I infect other people unknowingly as there is no information about the test report and I don’t know whether I am infected with the virus or not.
How can I go for a treatment when I don’t know anything about the outcome of the test?,” the lady said.
Reports informed that there are hundreds of such people who have undergone RT PCR testing on April 17, this year in Lal Bazar and Zadibal dispensary but till date, they have no information about their health condition. “As I don’t know whether I am infected or not and I can go at ease in the markets and may infect other people.
This is the utter non- seriousness of the health authorities there that such a delay is being done even in making the test reports available to the people,” said another aggrieved person. He added that when he telephoned the health officers in the area, they straight way told him that it is possible that the samples have been misplaced and that they should undergo testing afresh as there is no information available about the whereabouts of those samples.
The wakeup call from the country's leading health experts reveal that If you are one of those who showed Covid-19 symptoms, underwent a Rapid Antigen Test, and were relieved to test negative: this is a wake-up call for you. There’s every chance that not only have you been infected by coronavirus, but you have also most likely spread the highly contagious disease to those you have come in contact with. There were cases in which a person whose Rapid Antigen Testing report came back negative, only to have the Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) test confirms he was Covid-positive.
