Agri Dept’s Kharif campaign to benefit Kashmir farmers

Srinagar, Apr 22: In a bid to benefit farmers of Kashmir, the Agriculture department has launched a mega Kharif crop campaign in the region.
Launched on April 13, the campaign aims at doubling the income of the farmers in all the ten districts of Kashmir, including those living the remote areas along the LOC.
In Karnah and Tangdar areas, Director Agriculture, Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal, who was personally present for the launch of the campaign held a series of events including awareness programs on progressive farming.
Officials said in around 30 Panchayats of Tangdar, one “maize thresher” each was distributed for the benefit of the local farmers. Such events were also attended by democratically representatives likes members of the District Development Councils and the Panchayats.
In a major development for the residents of Karnah who remain cut off from the rest of the world for around six months of winter and thus fresh edibles cannot reach them, the Agriculture Department has decided to develop specialized centers for vegetable cultivation in the frontier region.
Apart from all this, specialized programs with focus on cultivation of lavender, red chilly and mushrooms has also been given a boost in the valley.
With Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha seeking focus on the deliverance of good governance, the Agriculture Department is on toes to benefit the farmers the most.
Officials said the department looks ahead to double the income of the farmers much in line with the aims and objectives as set by the Niti Aayog.
When contacted Director Agriculture Kashmir, Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal, who himself comes from a farmer family, said the department was committed to the aims and objectives like progressive farming for the benefit of farmers and consumers both.
He said focus was equally on organic family so that the people remain even healthy and farmers earn more.
