Don’t fall prey to misinformation
4/27/2021 10:58:35 PM
The COVID-19 vaccination drive is all set to commence for all the adults in India from May 1. The inoculation drive holds the key to fight the pestilence.
Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has urged the people not to get carried away by the misinformation campaign against the vaccine. The rumour mongers have been indulging in baseless propaganda just to create panic.
Till date millions of people have got vaccinated across the country and there have been very complaints about any side effects of the jab.
Experts and medicos have repeatedly stated that vaccination is the only way out to fight the pestilence. It has been proven beyond doubt that vaccines only can help in developing herd immunity.
The government is carrying out a massive awareness campaign about the importance of the COVID-19 vaccines. If one goes through the reports that had come to fore even before the vaccination process commenced in the United States and United Kingdom, one can easily see how the mischievous elements tried to disseminate the wrong information through the social media platforms related to the possible side-effects and likely ineffectiveness of the vaccine against the disease. But the time has proven them wrong. In India also there have been the elements who have been peddling the misinformation since the day inoculation drive has commenced.
If one goes through the records it becomes crystal clear that India has been the worst sufferer due to the misinformation related to the pandemic. As soon as the first infection was registered in January last year, a barrage of fake news opened up in the country. The fake news covered all the spectrums from the origin of COVID-19 to its cure. Stopping the flow of misinformation had become a big task for the government. Handling fake news and false propaganda have been a big task for the authorities.
The second wave of COVID-19 seems more dangerous than the first wave. It’s not even sparing the young people. The skepticism about efficacy of the COVID-19 jabs is not going to help anyone’s cause in fact it will add to the chaos and confusion and if the curve doesn’t flatten soon the government will be left with no other option other than imposing a complete lockdown. It’s in our hands to fight COVID and to prevent the economy from getting hit again. If people don’t cooperate with the government fighting COVID-19 would become a Herculean task.
