Need to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in Distt Poonch: Adv Navjot
5/8/2021 11:28:22 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, May 8: The healthcare sector of our country is overwhelmed and overburdened with the humungous number of people testing positive for COVID-19 daily. India has surpassed its last year’s peak and reported more than 4 lakhs cases in a single day. The situation in J&K is not different. Left unchecked, the situation can prove to be disastrous for the inhabitants belonging to twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri. The issues of accessibility, availability, affordability and quality of healthcare have already plagued the people of this region for a long time and the recent events have brought them back to the central stage stated by Advocate Navjot Sharma, Founder Pulastya Eco Social Foundation.
He highlighted that a cursory glance at the healthcare infrastructure in Poonch reveals the unpreparedness and inadequacies at different levels to deal with the health emergencies.
Administration must at the earliest turn its attention to the availability of enough oxygen cylinders, starting an oxygen plant in district hospital Poonch, availability of ventilators and qualified staff to operate such facilities.
It also necessitated the need to reorganize the existing ones and creation of new COVID centres in preparation for possible spurt. There is also the need to start emergency helicopter services for critically ill patients.
These steps need to be supplemented by strict administrative measures. It is imperative to penalise those who are flouting the advisories and guidelines issued by administration from time to time.
A self sufficiency in healthcare infrastructure can go a long way in saving countless lives.
Still one shall not lose sight of the preventive aspect to contain COVID-19, he further urged.
