5/11/2021 12:27:26 AM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, May 10: The weather warning continued on Monday even as the maximum temperature remained several degrees above normal in the summer capital, Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir, where skies turned cloudy in the evening.
Meanwhile, barring Srinagar and world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, the night temperature remained below normal at most places in the valley, where wet weather is predicted this week.
A Met department spokesperson said that light rain and thundershowers would occur at isolated places in the valley. “Moderate thundershowers with possibility of hailstorm would occur mostly likely in western parts of Baramulla, Uri, Gulmarg and Tangmarg this evening,” he added.
He said a fresh Western Disturbance, which originated from the Arabian Sea and is approaching the region though Afghanistan and Pakistan, would hit the region on Tuesday.
“Under the influence of this WD, rain would occur at some places in the valley on Tuesday,” he said, adding the system will intensify and would result in rain and thundershowers at most places on Wednesday and Thursday.
He said there is a weather warning during the next four days, during which lightening, thundershowers and hails with gusty winds (30-40 km/hour) would occur at isolated places.
After witnessing above normal day temperature, the weather suddenly changed in the evening in the summer capital, Srinagar due to overcast conditions, resulting in chilly weather condition. The maximum temperature in the city settled at 26.2 degree, which is about 3 degree above normal.
He said the light rain and thundershowers would occur during the next 24 hours in Srinagar, where the maximum and minimum temperature would settled at 24 degree and 14 degree, respectively.
The weather at world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, remained pleasant though it turned chilly in the evening following light rain and overcast conditions.
The ski resort remained deserted as shops and business establishments were closed and traffic was off the roads in view of extension of the lockdown till May 17. “All the shopkeepers remained closed while ATV drivers and pony owners have been asked not to come to the ski resort since April 29 evening following COVID lockdown,” a hotelier told UNI.
However, he said tourists, who have already make bookings in the hotels, were allowed to enter the resort. The night temperature at Gulmarg remained constant since Sunday at 6 degree, which is about a degree above normal. The maximum temperature in Gulmarg improved about 2 degree from Sunday and settled at 16 degree, which is about 2 degree above normal.
The maximum temperature at Qazigund, gateway to the valley, Kupwara in north Kashmir and tourist resort of Kokernag settle at 26.6 degree, 26.7 degree and 25.8 degree, respectively. The day temperature at these places was above normal though the weather turned chilly due to overcast conditions in the evening.
