Cong seeks visit of central expert team to GMC Rajouri, DHs Rajouri-Poonch
Demands immediate filling up of vacancies in GMC Rajouri

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, May 14: Congress has demanded that the central experts team visiting Jammu on Sunday, should also visit GMC hospital Rajouri besides district hospitals Rajouri and Poonch as well as other CHCs in hot spots to suggest urgent measures to upgrade the facilities there in view of the large number of casualties and positive cases there, after Jammu district.
In a letter to LG Manoj Sinha, JKPCC Chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma besides former health minister and vice chairman DDC Shabir Ahmad Khan and former legislator and senior Congress leader Ashok Sharma, National Coordinator AICC Vichar Vibhag, said that there are huge vacancies and shortcomings of manpower besides shortage of logistics in GMC Rajouri required to cater to the needs of twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch. They said 21 posts of doctors (medical officers), 11 posts of specialists and around 40 posts of paramedics and class IV including nurses, technicians, pharmacist, nursing orderlies and safaiwalas are vacant besides shortage of anesthesia staff required to deal with the situation especially to properly manage the oxygen system.
Since the GMC Jammu and other associated hospitals have been made almost out of bound for the covid patients of outside districts by the authorities, in view of huge load, so the GMC hospital Rajouri besides DHs and CHCs have to be further equipped to cater to the needs of the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch. They said that the GMC Rajouri was sanctioned 3000 LPM oxygen plant last year but only 1000 LPM plant has been installed, which is inadequate to cater to the requirements of available 40 ventilators and the rising number of serious patients requiring ventilator supported beds. Thus the oxygen plant needs to be augmented in the hospitals besides anaesthesia manpower to satisfactorily run round the clock emergency services, in this situation.
They said that the proposal to fully utilize the 100 bedded old hospital in Rajouri city, as dedicated Covid hospital, is getting dust, since last year, as a result the available infrastructure can't be fully used for COVID emergency, in the absence of manifold oxygen plant, which too can be installed on emergency basis, with limited expenditure to provide oxygen requirements to less serious patients .
They hoped that the LG Manoj Sinha would ask the central team to visit Rajouri and Poonch districts also to suggest urgent matters for upgrading the facilities to deal with the Covid situation in twin border and backward districts.
