5/22/2021 12:02:45 AM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

KATHUA, May 21: DD Chairman Kathua, Col (Retd) Mahan Singh today raised serious concern over the damages caused due to hailstorm, urging the administration to compensate the affected people.
The DDC Chairman along with Sarpanch of Village Plakh visited the house of one Sher Mohd, which has been severely damaged by storm last night. In the last hailstorm, several houses have been damaged in Basohli area of Kathua district.
The DDC Chairman said the recent rains have hugely damaged the standing crops and properties of people residing in rural and remote areas of the district. He urged the authorities concerned to release immediate preliminary relief in terms of free rations, tentage and financial assistance till a survey is conducted to ascertain the actual losses. He also sought deputation of an empowered team of revenue and agriculture officers to carry out the survey at ground zero, saying the recent hailstorm too has created havoc.
The DDC member appealed to the ADC Basohli, Tilak Raj Thapa to make a final assessment of the crops and submit the same to the government for providing necessary compensation to the affected farmers of these areas.
Interacting with people, the DDC Chairman assured them that the government would consider free ration, tents and aid to them. He said that the matter would be taken up with the authorities concerned so that necessary relief in cash and kind is provided to the affected families well in time. The DDC Chairman said the present government is working hard to improve the lot of people particularly those living below poverty line, in rural and far flung areas and those belonging: to weaker sections of society for whom many schemes and programmes are in vogue for the purpose.
