Weather warning ends, mercury remain below normal; more rain predicted | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Srinagar, May 21: Even though the weather warning has ended, there is possibility of scattered light rain during the next 72 hours in Kashmir and Jammu divisions, where mercury remained below normal on Friday. Sun was playing hide and seek in the valley, including summer capital, Srinagar, due to which the maximum temperature remained two degree to about 5 degree below normal on Friday. A Met department spokesman said this evening that there is no weather warning in the Jammu and Kashmir. Yesterday, the department had predicted Isolated rain and thundershowers and 30 km to 40 km speed per hour winds in the Union Territory (UT). However, he said, there could be scattered light rain and thundershowers in the J&K during the next 24 hours. During the subsequent two days there could be isolated to scattered rain and thundershowers. He said world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir recorded lowest 11.4 degree maximum temperature which was 4.8 degree below normal while the minimum temperature was 2 degree, 4.8 degree notches below normal. The maximum temperature at famed health resort of Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in south Kashmir was 18.9 degree, 2.7 notches below normal. However, the minimum temperature there was 6.8 degree, which was 0.6 degree above normal. Qazigund, gateway of Kashmir on Srinagar-Jammu national highway, Kupwara and Kokernag also recorded below normal maximum and minimum temperature. The summer capital, Srinagar, where sun was also playing hide and seek today, recorded below normal maximum and minimum temperature. The maximum temperature was 22.6 degree, 2.2 notches below normal in Srinagar, where people remained indoor due corona curfew on Friday, when rich tributes were paid to Mirwaiz Muhammad Farooq and Peoples Conference (PC) founder Abdul Gani Lone on their death anniversaries. Mirwaiz and Lone were killed by unidentified gunmen on this day in 1990 and 2002 respectively. The minimum temperature was 10 degree, 1.7 degree below normal. He said the sky would be partly cloudy to light rain and thundershowers and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 26 degree and 11 degree respectively during the next 24 hours in Srinagar. |
