BGSBU reduces fee by 50% as varsity fails to get admissions | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 10: The administration of Baba Ghulam Shah Bhadshah University (BGSBU) recently reduced the admission fee by around 50 percent for various undergraduate, post graduate and diploma courses indicating that the varsity has failed to get admissions in various programmes. While announcing the admissions for new session 2021, the Vice- Chancellor of the University had announced 50 percent reduction in admission fee in almost all courses and while making the announcement V-C had reportedly said, “......the decision has been taken in the interest of student community to effectively support them on the path of success”. However, according to sources the reduction in fee that too at a time when expenditures of the varsities are increasing, exposed a stark reality about the varsity status. “Several post graduate courses offered by the University are not able to fill the allotted seats, despite repeated extension of the admission process. The declining trend of admissions has been going on since the last few years due to which the University is finding it hard to run the departments”, sources said. Quoting some details, sources said, badly affected courses which failed to attack students include M.Sc in Information Technology, MCA, B.Voc Tourism. “Even the departments offering post graduate courses in Arabic, Economics, Micro Biology have not been able to fill the quota of seats”, sources said. Sources further claimed that the College of Engineering of the University, which had been attracting a large number of students, has been struggling to fill the allotted seats. “The College is offering courses in five streams including Electrical, Electronics and Communication, Computers and IT, Civil. The college has 300 allotted seats but during the last session, all the streams had got not more than 150 application forms in all”, sources said, adding that the seriousness of the matter could be gauged from the fact that the Kashmir University gave only 3 days to get admissions but despite extension of 8 months given by University to get admissions, the varsity had failed to attract students. “Though the Vice-Chancellor has recently joined the University and has been taking various initiatives to streamline the decaying institution bequeathed to him by his predecessors. Reducing the admission fee would unlikely to change the varsity’s condition. There are many deadwoods in the departments, who should be fired without any delay to reduce financial as well as intellectual liabilities”, sources said. |
