Ram Sena leader terms new land law discriminatory, seeks amendment
Mahajans, Khatris and Sikhs deprived of buying or selling agricultural land
6/10/2021 11:56:17 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

Jammu, June 10: J&K President of Ram Sena, Rajiv Mahajan, has expressed dismay over new land law which prevents members of Mahajan, Khatris and Sikhs from buying or selling agricultural land in the Union Territory. Criticizing the Land Revenue Act, Mahajan said that the law is a gross injustice with Mahajan, Khatri and Sikh communities in J&K UT as they have been prohibited from purchasing or even selling agricultural land, adding that the Mahajans, Khatris and Sikhs of the Union Territory have started facing new inequality as they have been deprived certain rights of sale and purchase of agriculture land.
“Not even the then Maharaja of J&K State had promulgated such laws. It is nothing but prejudice with the nationalist people of Jammu who always give paramount importance to the interests of the country,” Mahajan said.
“Jammuites had very high hopes that after abrogation of Article 370 and conversion of the erstwhile J&K State into a Union Territory they will get maximum benefits but such a discriminatory Revenue Act which debars members of particular communities from buying or selling agricultural land is really disheartening. The laws which prevailed during British Raj are being implemented again. We are again being turned into slaves. Maharaja had also promulgated the land law but he had made it clear that anyone can purchase at least 4 kanals of land,” he said, adding that “The Mahajans, Khatris and Sikhs who have purchased agricultural land can’t even sell that. It’s sheer discrimination.”
He demanded that this law should be amended forthwith.
