Natrang showcases Gaurav Sharma in its National Theatre Talk
6/11/2021 10:08:49 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, June 11: ‘Young Voices of Theatre’, a unique National Theatre Talk Show by Natrang featured Sangeet Natak Akademi’s Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Awardee, light designer Gaurav Sharma today who shared his inspirational views with the global audience at the Facebook page of Natrang Jammu.
Born and raised in Delhi, Gaurav Sharma completed his Masters Degree from the Department of Indian Theatre, Punjab University, Chandigarh in 2006 and did a three year Diploma in Scenography and Direction from National School of Drama, New Delhi. Later he did FdA production & Technical Arts: Stage & Screen from London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA), London. As Light Designer he has designed and programmed more than 250 lighting projects in the country and abroad. Gaurav is also a recipient of prestigious Inlaks Scholarship for abroad studies and College Crest Award.
In an engaging conversation with Nartang’s senior artist Neeraj Kant, Gaurav narrated his eventful journey of theatre and also pondered on several relevant issues.
Having done tremendous work, Gaurav humbly asserts that I am just a practitioner who sees a play through light and tries to understand the script thoroughly by going deep into it, watching rehearsals and having a series of discussions with the director/writer. He very candidly admits that whenever he designs lights, he suppresses the director within him and listens to the director. He believes in using selective, limited, innovative equipment with precision and also understands the power of homework, pre planning and detailed paperwork. He seeks to establish a platform which is crucible of inspiration and ideas, a coming together of creative minds, which push themselves to the absolute limits of their abilities, a space where innovation and originality will come together develop their ideas, perfecting their technique and complementing their learning in various fields.
