EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, June 17: Sangeet Natak Akademi’s Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Awardee, actor, director, designer and academician Namrata Sharma decorated ‘Young Voices of Theatre’, a unique National Theatre Talk Show by Natrang with her vivid thoughts today. The show, which is featured at the Facebook page of Natrang Jammu everyday, showcases outstanding young theatre practitioners of India, who share their inspirational views with the global audience.
Namrata Sharma Jape is an Actor, Director, Designer and Teacher in theatre. She has been an active theatre practitioner for the last over 23 years which includes 15 years of teaching as Assistant Professor in Department of Theatre and Television, Punjabi University, Patiala. Voice and speech trainer Namrata can speak a lot of languages and has given voice to few documentaries and educational projects.
In an engaging conversation with Nartang’s senior artist Neeraj Kant, Namarta informed that her journey of theatre started from Rajasthan.
She asserts that to do theatre efficiently, one needs a lot of discipline and time management in addition to instinctive passion. She could do meaningful theatre because she got immense support from her family. Moreover, she considers herself fortunate to get a very dedicated team, mentors and supporters and she expressed her gratitude towards all of them.
Namarta strongly believes that theatre has to be commercially viable for its graceful sustenance. Its commercial part is often ignored but we shall think about it professionally. Considering immense competition from other mediums, she suggests that quality shall be the main concern for theatre practitioners so that the audience which comes to watch a play is never dissatisfied and repelled. She opines that Covid crisis has made us realise the value of theatre and feels that we have to do it in a different adapted manner post Covid. To the young enthusiasts, she advises to give time and commitment to theatre as there is no shortcut in it and before jumping into it, one has to have a clear reason for doing theatre.
