Early Times Report JAMMU, July 29: NABARD organized an Environmental Awareness Program for the women SHG members at village Akhli, District Reasi to celebrate its 40th foundation day. NABARD came into existence on 12 July 1982 by transferring the agricultural credit functions of RBI and refinance functions of the then Agricultural Refinance and Development Corporation (ARDC). The mission of NABARD is to "Promote sustainable and equitable agriculture and rural development through participative financial and non-financial interventions, innovations, technology and institutional development for securing prosperity". The aim of the program was to spread awareness about the issues of environment management like climate change, pollution, depleting water table, fertile soil runoff, rain water conservation, increasing the tree cover, etc. Special focus was given to tree plantation keeping in view the ongoing monsoon season. The program was conducted in association with Krishi Vigyan Kendre, Reasi, JKRLM and the Forest Department. Dr. Banarsi Lal, Incharge KVK held detailed discussions with the present farmers about the prevailing environmental conditions, the ways to promote its conservation. Further he also listened to the various queries of the farmers related to their fields and crops. As a way to promote organic cultivation he also gave demonstration of the vemicompost bed and fly traps. Jugal Kishore, Block Manager, JKRLM, motivated the women members of the SHGs to promote the idea of environmental & water conservation along with extensive tree plantation. Rohit Sharma, Representative Forest Department, also gave the message for the extensive tree plantation in this monsoon season along with supply of the trees for plantation. |
