GDC Bishnah organizes lecture on topic “How Music Heals?”

JAMMU, July 31: Manodarpan: The Psychological Counselling Cell of Government Degree College Bishnah under Azadi ka Amrut Mahatsav (celebrating 75 years of independence) organized an online programme on zoom, regarding mental health awareness, on the topic “How Music Heals?” The guest speaker of the programme was Dr Jasmeet Kour, classical singer and Assistant Professor from Government College for Women Parade. Dr Kour interacted with students and detailed about the various Ragas which heal like Raag Bhopali, Raag Bhairav and others. She even mentioned that listening to Tanpura reduce the anxiety caused due to poor sleep. She also mentioned that music is not a mere subject but as an expression and we cannot ignore music because we are born with music. While concluding the session she sang a Dogri folk song and answered all the questions put forth by the students and the teaching faculty of GDC Bishnah. This programme was organised by the coordinator of Manodarpan Dr Randheer Kaur, Assistant Professor Department of Punjabi. Shivani Raina, Assistant Professor, Department of Music introduced the guest speaker with the students and paid a vote of thanks. Dr Anuradha Pandoh, Principal of the college and program chair ended the session with her last words praising the guest speaker and her efforts in engaging with students on the topic of music and explaining its relevance in contemporary times.
