GDC Ramnagar organizes campaign-cum-workshop on breast feeding | | | Early Times Report UDHAMPUR, Aug 5: To encourage breastfeeding and improve the health of babies around the world, every year WHO marks August 1 to August 7 as breastfeeding week. To commemorate the breastfeeding week, NSS Unit of Government Degree College (GDC) Ramnagar organized a campaign-cum-workshop on breastfeeding in adopted village Thaplal under the patronship of Dr Udhey Bhanu, Principal GDC Ramnagar and guidance of Prof Ritika Mhahajan, NSS PO of the college. NSS Unit of the college in collaboration with the Anganwadi Centre, Anti Malaria Department and ASHA Workers of the village Thaplal conducted the campaign to create awareness, protect, promote and support breastfeeding. Around 50 lactating mothers and pregnant women were present in the Anganwadi Centre of the village. NSS volunteers of the college namely Suhani, Sukeerty, Vidhushi, Sonal and Sarishta presented speech, short stories and poems encouraging breastfeeding as the effective measure to ensure child health and survival. NSS Programme Officer Prof Ritika Mahajan demonstrated to the local masses that milk of every mother is tailored to the needs of her baby and ensures not only the good health of the baby only but also of the mother also. The entire workshop was organized in the Anganwadi Centre of the village under the supervision of Santosh Kumari, AWW. Dr Udhey Bhanu, Principal GDC Ramnagar applauded the efforts of NSS Unit regarding awareness, promotion and support breastfeeding, breaking the social taboo associated with the process. |
