Govt's stand on land laws bundle of lies: Romesh Gupta | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 13: President of the Jammu Central Mahajan Sabha Romesh Chander Gupta has strongly condemned the said laws. He reiterated that after 5th August 2019 that Section H-133 of this Act should totally be withdrawn. While Section 133 H of the Act says only an agriculturist from J&K can buy agricultural land, at the same time it empowers the government or an officer authorized by it to grant permission to a non-agriculturist to alienate the land to a non-agriculturist by way of sale , gift-exchange or mortgage. A letter in this regard was written to the Prime Minister of India. He further said that there is a lot of misinformation and lack of clarity on this issue. Gupta, however, described the government's stand on the land laws as "a bundle of lies aimed to hoodwink people". He further added that recently Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai has given a written reply in Rajya Sabha that as per the adapted Land Laws of Jammu & Kashmir can allow transfer of agricultural land for public purposes such as education, charitable purpose and health care. All provisions of the constitution of India have been made applicable to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir which necessitated changes in existing laws of Jammu and Kashmir by Adaptation Orders so as to confirm with the provisions of the constitution of India. Gupta again drew the attention towards the discrimination with the two particular Communities (Mahajan and Khatris ) who have been denied the right of Sale and purchase of Agriculture land which is clear-cut discrimination. The Prime Minister's Office in response to the letter, has written a letter to Chief Secretary, Government of Jammu and Kashmir for the necessary action along with the directions to send a reply to petitioner " Romesh Chander Gupta, President Central Mahajan Sabha Jammu" and the copy of the same to be uploaded on the portal, for which the President on behalf of the Sabha expressed gratitude and sincerest thanks to the Prime Minister and further requested the concerned authorities of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to take up appropriate necessary action at the earliest so as to mitigate the long pending demand . The status of the grievance can be tracked at https://pgportal.gov.in/status after entering the registration no PMOPG/D/2021/0175201. |
