Police rescues 22 civilians from Kulgam encounter site: IGP | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Aug 13: Police rescued 22 civilians, including an elderly woman patient, from encounter site at Malpora area in south Kashmir district of Kulgam, Inspector General of Police (IGP) K Vijay Kumar said on Friday. He said it was learnt that some civilians were stranded at Malpora on Srinagar-Jammu national highway in Kulgam where an encounter took place between two militants of Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) and security forces in the afternoon on Thursday. The encounter ensued after militants attacked Border Security Force (BSF) convoy with automatic weapons. Mr Kumar said police in a very professional manner launched rescue operation in the area. We rescued 22 civilians, including 12 shopkeepers, six women and four non local labourers, he said adding one of the old lady was sick. These civilians were stranded near the encounter site at Malpora, Mr Kumar said adding they were later taken to safer place. The operation to flush out the militants was going on Friday morning, he said. |
