GCW Udhampur organizes kite plying competition | | | Early Times Report
Udhampur, Aug 13: Government College for Women (GCW) Udhampur observed Kite Flying Festival to celebrate Azaadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, cherishing 75 years of Independence. The motive of this valour festival is to spread the message of peace, love, unity, freedom and communal harmony. Prof. Minu Mahajan, Principal GCW Udhampur was the chief guest on the occasion. Worthy Principal in her address told that tradition of Kite flying is an integral part of Indian culture during various festivals but the kite flying on Independence Day besides signifying the spirit of freedom, there is a whole lot of historical significance. She added that back in 1927, India was protesting against the Simon Commission and at that time, freedom fighters coined famous slogans like Go Back Simon. A large number of students and staff of the college have participated in this activity. The appearance of Tri-colour kites in the sky gave an expression of freedom, joy and patriotism. One of the students said that “in patango k jariye hum sabi ko pyar, bhai-chaara aur nafrato se aazaadi” ka sandesh paunchana chahye hei. She said these kites are for everyone irrespective of caste or community. |
