Seek end to their woes
8/17/2021 11:59:08 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Aug 17: Residents of Goswami Basti in Qasim Nagar area of old city are facing acute shortage of water and power supply for the past some time besides they are also deprived of other basic civic amenities.
The PHE and PDD Departments seem to care little about the condition of residents of this area in the absence of regular and proper water and electricity supply.
Irked over the irregular as well as inadequate water and power supply in Kabir Basti, several residents of the locality while speaking to Early Times expressed their resentment against the authorities.
The aggrieved residents claimed that they don't get regular water supply, adding that whatever little they are getting in the name of water supply is insufficient to meet their daily needs.
"There is not even a drop of water in the supply pipes for the past six-seven days due to which we are facing many hardships. And what to talk about power scenario in our locality.
Electricity cuts are taking a heavy toll on us. Power remains snapped most of the times but situation gets worse particularly during night hours," a woman resident said.
"People living in the colony are suffering in the absence of proper water and power supply," she added.
The locals rued that they have brought this matter to the knowledge of those concerned, but officials are not bothered about their problems.
One of the area residents said authorities have failed in solving these issues.
"The major issues plaguing us are not being addressed by those at the helm of affairs probably because we don't belong to affluent class," she said.
"The residents of this ward, in the heart of the city, are fed up with the irregular water as well as poor electricity supply, dilapidated lanes and sewage problems. At least now the authorities should take notice of our woes," she added.
