CF questions absence of Kashmiri politicians during I-Day celebrations | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 18: Citizens Forum has questioned the absence of Kashmiri politicians during the Independence day celebrations across Jammu and Kashmir. "It is strange and should act as an eye-opener, for those at the Centre planning to hold Assembly elections and Jammu leaders eager to become part of it, that none of the top Kashmiri leaders had either taken part in any national function or felicitated the people on the occasion of Independence Day", the press release reads. Pointing out this serious anomaly in the attitude of Kashmiri political leadership who on one are demanding early assembly elections to be held under the Constitution of India and on the other hand refusing to be part of the 1-Day celebration, Jammu Citizens Forum chief, R K Chadha said that there is a fit case to evaluate the need for holding elections under such circumstances. "Since BJP is not in a position to win elections and form the government on its own, under such circumstances holding elections would mean handing over power to these leaders who have scant respect for the nation's pride attached to the 1-Day celebrations. The question arises why should the Centre and the ruling BJP handover power to this Kashmiri leadership on platter, he said adding:" Even the leadership of Jammu who are eager to become ministers in the forthcoming citizen cabinet should mull over keeping in mind the interests of Jammu which have again taken a back-seat as the ruling BJP has not been able to fulfill much of its promises made to the people of Jammu region.", it observed. Describing the top Kashmiri leadership's act in dissociating themselves from the 1-Day celebrations as unfortunate, Chadha said it raises serious questions about their commitment to the Constitution of India. "The debate on Article 370 and its dilution is a different matter. It is unfortunate that the Kashmiri leadership has mingled this debate with the 1-Day celebration which naturally raises an alarm in the minds of the nationalist people in Jammu and Kashmir and rest of the country. The Kashmiri leadership must come clear on this issue before they raise any further demand for holding assembly elections", he added. The Forum chief also gave a clarion call to like-minded prominent persons of Jammu region belonging to different sections of the society to join hands and unitedly contest elections, as and when held, in the interest of Jammu and the Forum is ready to facilitate any such move including fielding candidates. "Or else, given the attitude of the Kashmiri leadership and the prevailing circumstances in the ruling BJP and other political parties, il would be in the interest of Jammu that the Central rule under current formation continues as at least some attention is being paid to the problems of Jammu region", Chadha said. |
