Terrorists on killing spree
8/21/2021 12:05:13 AM
Terrorists struck yet again in South Kashmir’s Kulgam District by killing an Apni Party leader Ghulam Hassan Lone, near his residence at Devsar. This was the third attack and fourth killing of any political worker in less than a couple of weeks creating fear psychosis among the workers of political parties.
Only a couple of days ago on Tuesday, ultras gunned down a BJP worker and constituency in-charge for Homeshalibugh assembly segment, Javed Ahmad Dar.
Earlier on August 9, militants gunned down a BJP leader and his wife, also the political worker in Anantnag town of the region. The killings have created panic among the grassroot level political workers. They have been changing their residences to dodge attacks by militants in the absence of security.
The law enforcing agencies have made it explicitly clear that all the political workers cannot be provided with the security cover as their number is huge. Militants are choosing soft targets and are striking at will. They are aware of the fact that the people whom they are killing won’t be able to resist as they are unarmed. It’s unfortunate that political workers are becoming sitting ducks and the terrorists sponsored by the neighbouring country are on a killing spree.
The Jammu and Kashmir Government should revisit the security plan of the political workers and come up with a new strategy to protect them. It’s amply clear that Pakistan is in no mood to end the violence and terror in J&K.
After the abrogation of Article 370 and J&K’s transition into a Union Territory, militants are on the run as security forces have an upper hand. Ultras are choosing soft targets to make their presence felt as they know very well that if they engage with the security forces they will get killed. Ultras have gone into self preservation mode but to tell the people they are present they are killing unarmed civilians in cold blood.
Militants remaining active in J&K have proven beyond doubt that Pakistan is not sincere and the ceasefire along Line of Control (LoC) is just an attempt to hoodwink the international community. Our rogue neighbor isn’t interested in peace. It has become addicted to bloodshed and violence, and it is in no mood to mend its ways. One can feel the pain and grief of the families who have lost their kith and kin in the senseless violence being carried out by the militants.
