SKUAST-J celebrates Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav

JAMMU, Aug 24: The Agrometeorology section under the aegis of Vice Chancellor and guidance of Respected Director Research & Registrar of SKUAST-Jammu in collaboration with IFFCO- J & K organized one day "Farmers Awareness cum Input and plant distribution programme" at Jinder Mehlu, R.S. Pura, District- Jammu.
The programme was held under SC-SP Programme of NICRA-AICRPAM to sensitize the farmers against the future climate change effect. Dr. Jag Paul Sharma, Director Research & Registrar , SKUAST-J was the Chief Guest and Dr. Bahadur Ram, Marketing manager, IFFCO-J&K and Afshan Hamal, BDO of Miran Sahab were guest of Honour of the programme in which about 188 farmers (male and female) participated.
The proceeding of the programme was started by Dr. Mahender Singh, PI NICRA AICRPAM and Sr. Scientist &I/C, Agrometeorology, who welcomed the gathering and discussed in detail about the importance of organizing this awareness programme. He further gave detailed information on importance of timely agricultural operations based on the weather forecast and adverse impact of climate change on agricultural crops.
Dr. Jag Paul Sharma, Director Research and Chief Guest of the function highlighted the importance of such type of programmes and stressed upon the farmers to adopt the new varieties of Basmati developed by SKUAST-J, Chatha, Jammu. He encouraged the farmers to work in a collective approach by making FPOs for various levels to take the maximum output from and also reducing the input cost used in field and maximize the output so that . He also motivates them to take benefits from the forecast services under NICRA Project which will ultimately enhance the income of poor and marginal farmers of the area. He also distributed the Nano Urea and fruit plants to the farmers of villages in collaboration with IFFCO-J&K.
Afshan Hamal, BDO, Miran Sahab, and guest of honour of programme brief about the various schemes for rural youth and other works for pachyat level by govt. Dr. Bahadur Ram, Marketing Manager IFFCO, and guest of honour of programme told about the functioning by IFFCO for the benefits of farmer in J&K and new products developed by the cooperative society.
Dr. V.B. Singh, Sr. Scientist (pl. Pathology), stressed farmers on adopting new vegetable garden techniques as well as on the role of weather factors in disease development and their management in rice and horticultural crops. Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Incharge, RRSS, Raya gave detailed information on new technologies of fruit cultivation under changing climate scenario.
Dr. Charu Sharma also interacted with the farmers, she emphasized upon farming community to adopt improved / modern technologies like agro-advisories services and mechanized farming system to improve the livelihood of the people of the area.
Vivek Verma, Field Officer, IFFCO also highlight uses of nano urea in various crops, at this occasion various Sarpanch Mrs. Seema Kumari, progressive farmer Mr. Sham Gorkha, Mrs. Parveen Kesar (Panch), ex CMO Dr. Girdhari Lal etc were participated in the programme. Dr. Monika Banotra, FASAL Project presented the vote of thanks of the participants.
