Bureaucrats caught on wrong foot
8/31/2021 11:28:01 PM
National Conference president and former J&K Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah has claimed that the bureaucrats in the Union Territory have turned “kings” and are taking anti-people decisions.
The NC president warned them of dire consequences and reminded them that the time will change. He expressed dismay over the officials not picking up the phones of local people and the politicians. Dr Farooq reminded them that they are public servants and not monarchs.
The NC president is not the first leader, who has blamed the bureaucrats for the mess. Prior to him, veteran BJP leader and former minister, Sukhnandan, had accused the bureaucrats of not allowing the benefits of the scrapping of Article 370 reaching to a common man.
Bureaucrats have been in the news for wrong reasons for the past many months. Despite their mistakes being pointed out they seem to be in no mood to mend their ways.
Recently, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), stated that bureaucrats have turned dictators and have become three times more powerful after scrapping Article 370.
The helmsmen need to introspect and see why there is so much resentment brewing against them? Why are people and politicians unhappy with them?
There are many reasons for people being dismayed. Bureaucrats remain inaccessible. They take decisions without taking the stakeholders into confidence, and have started believing that they are always right.
Khatris, Sikhs and Mahajans have been deprived of buying or selling the agricultural land. Members of these communities have been knocking each and every door to get this law amended but till date no one has paid any heed to their requests. Politicians, who tried to convey to the officials that this law is discriminatory and needs to be amended, are not being even entertained. After facing disappointment one of the senior BJP leaders from Jammu had stated that “bureaucrats are running the government” and his party has got nothing to do with the governance. But it seems that time is about to change as the delimitation exercise would be completed in a few months and after that elections will be held. Rule of bureaucrats is all set to end. They should realize that they still have some time left to rectify the mistakes they have committed in the past two years.
