Authorities abandon Nandini area, Congress grass covers dilapidated road | Wildlife department doing everything for animals, humans left to fend on their own: Residents | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 3: Authorities have abandoned Nandini area along old Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. The Congress grass has grown on both the sides of the road and it’s not in a motorable condition. There is a board on the side of the road erected by the Wildlife department which reads that throwing garbage along the road is a punishable offence as it’s a part of a wildlife sanctuary. Residents of Nandini said that the Wildlife Department is doing a commendable job by maintaining the wildlife sanctuary and is providing all the facilities to the animals. “But we humans have been left to fend on our own. After the new highway became operational, area around the old Nandini tunnel has been abandoned. No one has even bothered to check how we are surviving,” they said. “It appears that wildlife and the Congress grass which has grown is more important than the residents of Nandini. The road has turned dilapidated and our area has been completely ignored. It seems that officials are least bothered about the plight of human beings and are not interested in providing even basic amenities to us. We the residents of Nandini, which was the most famous spot on the old Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, don’t exist for the authorities anymore,” they added. |
