Early Times Report

RAJOURI, Sept 13: To commemorate the 75th year of India's Independence, Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav is being celebrated with great enthusiasm in Rajouri.
A series of events have been planned to showcase the culture and tourism potential of the area.
It is pertinent to mention here that the District Administration has kept the youth and women at the forefront in this process of peace and development. More than 50000 women and 60000 youth have been registered by the District Administration.
Formal orders for making youth clubs of 14000 youth have been issued and women water conservation clubs have been constituted in each village and panchayat.
The District Administration has also handed over some buildings to the youth for housing the Youth clubs. Deputy Commissioner, Rajesh K Shavan said that the main focus is to keep the youth engaged and identify their skills, potential and channelize their energies in the right direction.
The DC said that the district administration is organising special training for the young girls in the coming days to train them in making local craft and pine needle baskets for which a resource person has been hired from Himachal Pradesh, while the DFO has been asked to coordinate with the Principals of ITIs for the same.
A grand cultural festival was also organised at the District Headquarter last month wherein the artists from the adjoining states and districts participated and was highly appreciated by the local public.
A border mela will also be organised at Seri on 5th and 6th of October and rural festivals will be celebrated in association with the civil society, tourism department and NGOs to promote the culture and tourism of the area.
The DC said that a group of 100 youth are also being sent on trekking from the Darhal area to Shakkermarg and seven lakes on 15th September as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
The National Flag shall also be unfurled at these places. The youth of the area have been identified and have shown great interest in celebration.
As per the programme, elaborate arrangements have been made and concerned line departments have been asked to provide full assistance. The group shall be flagged off by the DC from the base camp at Darhal on 15th September morning.
The DC said that the promotion of the heritage and cultural activities are getting focused attention and a detailed action plan has already been submitted to the Government.
He said it will diligently attract more tourists to the area and spread positivity among the society.
