A large number of Asha workers participated in the demonstration holding flags and placards in their hands and chanted slogans in support of their demands.,
While addressing the Asha Workers Om Parkash General Secretary State Committee of CITU said that it is the fact that much of credit for the success of the fight against the first and second wave of the Covid goes to the selfless work of the fourteen thousand ASHA workers working in Public Health System of Jammu & Kashmir.
Further, he said a number of ASHA workers have so far been martyred in this fight saving thousands of lives but it is shameful for the nation that in spite of selfless dedicated work all these years and the extraordinary services provided by the ASHA workers during the pandemic, risking their own life and the lives of their family, the Government of India is not ready to recognize their work and regularize them as permanent employees, minimum wages and social security and pension as per the recommendations of the 45th and 46th Indian Labour Conferences.
He urged upon the ASHA workers to continue their struggle for getting their demands.
In her address ,Anita Rajput Secretary of ASHA Workers Union said that ASHA Workers working in almost all other states like Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pardesh etc are getting wages/remuneration of more than 10 thousands per month but ASHAs who have been working in the UT of Jammu & Kashmir are getting meager remuneration of Rs 2000 only.
Sunita Bhagat, leader of ASHA Workers Union Jammu said that we have already submitted the memorandum comprising the demands such as increase in remuneration/wage from Rs 2000 to Rs 21000 per month, additional increase in wage of Rs 1000 every year , special allowance Rs 300 per day for motivation and mobilization campaign for Covid vaccination, allowance of Rs 500 per day for performing their duties in Covid management, Rs 50 lakh to the dependents of those ASHAs who had died due to Covid pandemic, covered under 50 lakh insurance scheme as announced by government of India for front line workers.
