One Day Webinar organized by Jammu University | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 17: To mark the one-year completion of New Education Policy 2020, celebration of Azadi ka Amrit Mahaotsav and culmination of Shikshak Parv 2021, University of Jammu organized One Day Webinar on the theme "Implementation of NEP 2020 at the bedrock level in the Union Territory of Jammu, Kashmir & Ladakh: How to make NEP 2020 work with regard to 'School Education' on 17th September, 2021 on virtual platform. The webinar was steered into action by Virtual Lighting of Lamp followed by prayer sung by twin sisters of Jammu, Ms. Saibaa and Saisha Gupta. The Welcome Address was delivered by Dyutima Kesar followed by briefing about the themes of the webinar where she highlighted the various aspects of the school education for the effective implementation of NEP 2020. The session was started with the presentation of Sh. Ajeet Kumar Sahu (IAS, Commissioner Secretary School Education, UT of Ladakh), in which he focused on accomplishing the goals of NEP 2020 such as, co-locating Anganwadi with primary schools, starrting pre-primary Classes, training of the existing AWWs in pre- primary education with support of teachers, CBSE/NCERT syllabus to be introduced in Ladakh instead of JKBOSE, 11 new vocational school to be added across the UT of Ladakh making it 30 in number. 100% Adult literacy to be achieved by 15th August 2022 under Padhna Likhna Abhiyan. IT support system is set up such as, Community Radio, IT labs, smart classes, digital labs which have already been introduced, and Atal Tinkering Labs, mobile Labs, and Autonomy labs, etc. in pipeline are yet to be introduced. Mohsin Ali (Executive Councillor (Health), LAHDC, Kargil) focused on motivating teachers for betterment of schools and for the better understanding of the mother-tongue. Further, Sh. Tsering Angchuk (Dy. Chairman/EC (Education), LAHDC, Leh) elaborated the reasons behind the low enrolment in government schools and talked about solarisation of the school buildings to cope up with harsh weather and to make LEH school Carbo Neutral. To add more light on the NEP 2020 with regard to school education, Dr. Ravi Shankar explained how the taskforce that has been formulated by their department and that the challenges with respect to NEP 2020 are being chalked out and that suggestive measures are under process. Ruheed Gul ( Incharge, Academic Innovation Cell of DSE, Kashmir) deliberated upon the need for reimagining vocational education in UT of Jammu-Kashmir. He highlighted that how local art and craft can make learners self-sufficient. He stressed upon the measures to be taken to integrate local art and craft with curricular structure and pedagogy. Dr. Veena Pandita (Director SCERT & Chairperson JKBOSE) deliberated upon the various modifications recommended for the school education in NEP 2020 and suggested various measures for promoting learning at different levels of school education. After all the special invitees and guest speakers put forth their views, an interactive question-answer cum discussion session was moderated by Sh. Deepak Sharma, Sr. Academic Officer SCERT, Jammu. Prof. Renu Nanda, Dean, Faculty of Education, University of Jammu in her concluding remarks expressed the need for taking a concrete action plan to ensure the effective implementation of NEP 2020 at school level in UT of Jammu-Kashmir & Ladakh. She ensured that University of Jammu will take lead in handholding the school education department with regard to curriculum reforms, training with a focus on pedagogy and methodology in tune with requirements of NEP 2020. She also expressed her gratitude to all for joining from across both the UTs of Jammu-Kashmir & Ladakh. Prof. Manoj K. Dhar, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, in his Presidential Address, emphasised on the creation of action plan to transact NEP 2020 from paper to reality in order to reconfigure the curricular and pedagogical structure for making education system more responsive and relevant to the developmental needs of the different categories of the students at all levels. Formal vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Ana Bali. She thanked Hon'ble Chief Guest, Guest speakers, Special invitees, faculty members from various Universities, colleges, NIEPA, NCERT, CIBS (Leh), officials from SCERT, UT of J&K and Ladakh, heads of departments, lecturers, ECCE coordinators, principals of DIETS across the UT of J&K and Ladakh, principals of higher secondary schools, headmasters of middle schools and officials from DSE J&K and Ladakh, CEO Leh and Kargil, superannuated professors and members from civil society Prof. Mubarak Singh, Prof. Lokesh Verma and Prof. Mohammad Rafi, officials from NGO like NDF and Shantiniketan Bal Bhavan.
