GDC Sidhra celebrates World Ozone Day

JAMMU, Sep 17: ECO-Club of Government Degree College (GDC) Sidhra organized online activities to commemorate “World Ozone Day 2021” under the banner of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’. ECO-Club organized Poster making and Slogan writing competition on the theme “PROTECT OZONE LAYER, PROTECT EARTH”.
World Ozone Day is also known as International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer and is observed every year on 16th September. The main aim behind commemorating this day is to spread awareness about the importance of ozone layer and steps that should be taken to preserve this layer that protects the Earth from harmful portion of the rays of the sun, thus helping preserve life on the planet.
A number of students of different semesters of the college participated in the event. The result was declared today. The participants were judged by Prof Harpreet Kour, Head Department of Political Science and Dr Mehmood Ahmed, Head Department of Urdu of the College. In poster making Karsoom Akhtar of BA Sem II was adjudged first whereas Anamika Verma of BA Sem II and Shafeeq-Ul-Rehman of BA Sem IV were adjudged at second and third positions respectively. In slogan writing activity Adil Ahmed of BA Sem II bagged first position while Sonu Kumar Pandit and Waqar Ahmed both of BA Sem II bagged second and third position respectively.
Principal, Dr Monika Sharma congratulated the meritorious students as well as the student participants for their participation in the event with full enthusiasm. The event was organized by Dr Anshu Gupta, Convener, ECO Club and Head, Department of Environmental Sciences of the college and coordinated by Prof Deepa Kak and Prof Meesha Bhagat, members, ECO Club of the college.
