Be loyal, follow rules | | Zahoor Ragi | 9/17/2021 11:58:59 PM |
| The Jammu and Kashmir Government has tightened its noose further around its employees. They will have to get the clearance from Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) to obtain passports. Till now, any suspended employee or anyone facing corruption charges, used to get the passport without any verification from the department he was working with but now the employee facing any allegation can be denied the passport till the pending enquiry against him gets completed or till he gets the clearance from the ACB. After J&K's transition into a Union Territory the government has taken many steps to ensure that the government employees give up the activism and focus on their jobs. The slew of administrative measures like amending the service rules, acting tough against the terror friendly employees and giving more teeth to the anti-graft agencies have helped in making employees fall in the line. A few employees who had links with the militants or sued to sympathize with them have been terminated and many are under scanner. Prior to August 5, 2019-when the Centre announced its decision to abrogate J&K's special status and divided it into two union territories-the government employees used to remain active on the social media and used to criticize the government decisions. There were instances where employees used to openly glorify militants and militancy under the watchful eyes of the politicians ruling the erstwhile state. Many nationalist people had objected to such activities of the government employees. But the former rulers just brushed aside their concerns saying that it's the freedom of speech. After August 5, 2019 situation in J&K has changed and the government has made it clear that employees have to remain loyal to the country and there is no place for such people who will indulge in anti-national acts. The government has already constituted a Special Task Force (STF) to identify and scrutinize government employees with links to activities that pose threat to national security. The panel has been assigned the job to compile records of such employees and refer the same to the committee for the further action. The recent decision of the government seems to be the last warning to employees to maintain a clean track record and take their jobs seriously. They need to ensure that they follow the rules and regulations in letter and spirit. |
