| KVK Leh celebrates 'International Year of Millets' | | |  Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 18: As part of the nationwide campaign to promote the production and consumption of millets and to promote nutritional security in the country, Krishi Vigyan Kendra-Leh celebrated 'International Year of Millets 2023'. The programme was conducted under the overall supervision of Dr. D. M. Makhdoomi, Director Extension, SKUAST-K.
Sharing details, Dr. F.D. Sheikh, Senior Scientist and Head KVK-Leh said that in 75th year of country's independence that is being celebrated as 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav', this nationwide campaign has been launched in which all the agricultural institutes of the country have been involved. KVK-Leh had also made special provisions also for webcast of the today's events. The programme started with a welcome address by Dr. Kunzang Lamo followed by expert lectures and distribution of vegetable seed kits among the farming community. These vegetable kits aim to help the farm women to take up kitchen gardening and to ensure year round availability of fresh vegetables for their families. Many girls were also served with value added products made with locally grown cereals. On this occasion a plantation drive was also conducted in which twigs of locally grown Salix species were distributed and planted. |
