Heat-wave continues as mercury remain above normal in Kashmir, rain predicted | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Sept 20: Heat-wave continued as mercury remained above normal and light showers this evening could not bring any relief in the Kashmir valley, where scattered light rain and thundershowers could occur during the next 24 hours. Mirpura and Muzaffarabad, capital of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) continued to record highest maximum and minimum temperature in the region. A Met department spokesman said the maximum temperature at Mirpura and Muzaffarabad was 35 degree and 32.8 degree respectively on Monday. The minimum temperature was 26.1 degree at Mirpura and 21 degree in Muzaffarabad, he said. He said there could be scattered light rain and thundershowers in the Kashmir valley during the next 24 hours. During the subsequent two days same weather will continue, he added. Srinagar, where daily COVID positive cases are witness a surge due to violation Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), recorded 30.4 degree maximum temperature which was 3.2 notches above normal. The minimum temperature was 18.4 degree, 6.5 notches above normal. However, light showers in the evening also could not bring any relief. The sky would be partly cloudy with light rain and thundershowers and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 27 degree and 15 degree respectively during the next 24 hours. Gulmarg and Pahalgam, major tourist attraction, also recorded above normal temperatures. At Gulmarg the maximum temperature was 20.6 degree, two degree above normal while the minimum temperature was 10.6 degree, 2.7 degree above normal. The maximum and minimum temperatures at Pahalgam were 25.1 degree, 1.5 notches above normal and 13.9 degree which was 6.1 degree above normal respectively. Qazigund, Kokernag and Kupwara also recorded several degree above normal maximum and minimum temperature, he said. |
