Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 21: The Jammu Pharmaceutical Distributors Association (JPDA) charged Pharmaceutical companies of resorting to corrupt practices in the sale of medicines thus looting common people of India.
While addressing a press conference here today, Rakesh Gupta, President JPDA, expressed serious concern over the shocking malpractices being adopted by the Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Companies by selling most of the medicines at different prices to different sectors despite having the same MRP. He said that all this was happening with active connivance of the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA), Department of Pharmaceuticals under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India who are responsible for regulating the prices of Drugs under Essential Commodities Act of the Drugs Price Control Order.
Giving details, Rakesh Gupta blew lid off the money minting modus operandi being adopted by the Pharma Manufacturing Companies selling the medicines/drugs on different rates to different sectors. He warned both the Manufacturers and the NPPA for adopting unethical practice of looting the poor people i.e. patients by making money on human sufferings. He also blamed them of playing with the lives of the people by paving the way for unchecked entry of Spurious / Sub Standard Drugs into the market because of the price war and competition for sales.
The President JPDA appreciated the numerous initiatives undertaken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the health sector especially the Ayushman Bharat - Pradan Mantri Jan Arogya Yogana (AB-PMJAY) but expressed his displeasure that these unethical practices by the Manufacturers that too right under the nose of price regulators and watch dogs of the Government of India. Gupta appealed to the Chief Justice of India to take suo moto cognizance of this whole gamut and issue notice to the concerned Ministry and the Pharma Manufacturers to take time bound corrective steps in the larger interest of suffering humanity and sell Medicines / Drugs to different sectors at one price allowing a level playing field to all the stake holders.
He also appealed the Prime Minister to take note of this Medicine / Surgical Sales Scam and instruct the concerned Ministry to immediately rectify this malpractice of charging different rates.
The other Office bears of JPDA present at the press conference were Ajay Gupta (Sr.Vice President), Brijesh Gupta (Vice President), Rajan Gupta (Secretary General), Ravinder Gandaral (Secretary) and Manmeet Singh (Treasurer).
