MC Rajouri holds awareness program on solid waste management, segregation process

RAJOURI, Sept 27: Municipal Council Rajouri today organised an awareness program on Solid waste management and segregation process under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
President MC Rajouri, Mohd Arief; Vice President MC Rajouri, Bharat Bushan Vaid; Ward Councillors, sanitation workers, Anganwadi workers and urban dwellers attended the programme.
The main objective of the program was to generate a holistic understanding of solid waste management issues, including the best practices and the importance of proper sanitation.
In his address, the President MC said that better Solid waste management will lessen the hazards of pollution on environment pollution as well as on the public health. He said the need of the hour is to work out an effective plan to manage the solid waste effectively for minimizing its negative effects on health and environment.
He said that MC is organizing series of activities under the current campaign including discouraging the use of plastic and other solid material hazardous to environment and human health. He said an initiative “Waste to Art” has also been launched in this regard.
The President also urged the public to shun the use of single-use plastic and go for the eco-friendly alternatives to polythene to protect the environment and rivers.
Vice President, Bharat Bushan Vaid said that public awareness and their participation is key to successful waste management.
Experts in solid waste management and segregation from Jammu also interacted with the participants and threw light on several measures which can help manage and segregate the solid waste effectively.
