GGM Science College celebrates Ozone Layer Preservation Day

JAMMU, Sept 30: In connection with the International Ozone Layer Preservation Day, the NSS Unit 1 of GGM Science College Jammu held an extension lecture here today to sensitize the students to raise awareness about the importance of International Ozone Layer Day and to inspire positive approach towards Ozone preservation. The webinar was organized under aegis of Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav with the theme World Ozone Day 2021 is 'Montreal Protocol - keeping us, our food, and vaccines cool'." under guidance of Principal Dr Ravender Tickoo and supervision of Dr Narinder Kumar, NSS PO.
Dr AM Raza, a well known educationist and former Director of Research Institute at Eritrea was the main resource person on the occasion. In his lecture, Dr Malik threw a detailed light on disseminating awareness among people about the depletion of the ozone layer and emphasized for possible solutions to preserve it. He added that the ozone layer is a shield of gas that protects the Earth from the harmful rays of the Sun and helps in preserving life on the planet. "The Montreal Protocol and the Kigali Amendment show us that by acting together, anything is possible, he underlined.
Earlier, NSS PO Dr Narinder Kumar in his welcome, address gave a brief introduction why do International Ozone Layer Depletion Day is celebrated. He underlined the main cause of depletion of the Ozone layer is human activity i.e. Human made chemicals which have chlorine or bromine. He added these chemicals are known as ODS- Ozone - Depleting Substances and ODS substances have a lifetime of about 100 years.
The webinar ended with a special vote of thanks by the NSS PO. Technical support in organizing the webinar was provided by Seemab Raza,Tejesvani, Karanveer, Rohit and Shubham.
