Nehru Yuva Kendra Udhampur launches 'Clean India' campaign

UDHAMPUR, Oct 3: Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) Udhampur organized Plogging Run on the occasion of birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi to commence 'Clean India' campaign across the district. The Clean India campaign has been launched as part of 'Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav' celebrations in all blocks of Udhampur district. On the occasion, all the National Youth Volunteers, Youth Club members, PRI members and members from civil society took part and collected plastic waste spread across the town. The Plogging run started from NYK Office and after passing through Domail Chowk, DC Office complex, Slathia Chowk, Gole Market culminated back at the NYK office. The run filled with slogans "Clean India: Safe India" and Fitness Ka Dose Aadha Ghanta Roz aimed at creating an atmosphere of cleanliness and eradicating plastic pollution. People were made aware through jingles and announcements to minimize the dependence on plastic in their daily lives.
District Youth Officer, Khushal Gupta spoke that such awareness campaigns will be launched in a mission mode till 31st October during which more than 30 kg plastic waste from each village will be eradicated. In addition, historical monuments, hospitals, PHCs, educational institutions, public places, Anganwadi centres and other places of historical importance will be focussed upon. Cleanliness of water bodies will also remain on the primary focus. He also urged all the departments to participate in the campaign to involve "Jan Bhagidari" to make it a "Jan Andolan". During the event, Sarpanch Sushma Sharma, APA Souravdeep, Youth Club members Ajay Kumar, Deepak Kumar, Aditya Deep and others also remained present. They also requested other agencies like NSS, Bharat Scouts & Guides, Municipal Councillors, PRI members and others to come forward and contribute towards cleanliness.
