SRINAGAR, Oct 5: Within a span of few hours, three persons including famous chemist, M L Bindroo, non local Bhelpuri vendor and a civilian were shot dead by unknown gunmen in Kashmir on Tuesday.
“The gunmen fired at a chemist at famous Chemist M L Bindro at Iqbal Park area of Srinagar, who succumbed on way to hospital, while another non local vendor was also shot dead in Summer Capital on Tuesday, said media reports.
However sources said that some gunshots were heard near Iqbal Park in the Srinagar area on Tuesday evening, after which people ran for cover up.
Soon after the incident, it was learnt that unknown gunmen fired at a famous chemist Makhan Lal Bindroo (M L Bindro) 68 at his shop at around 7 pm near Iqbal Park, Srinagar, Bindroo had multiple bullet injuries, said sources.
However, the injured Bindroo was immediately shifted to the nearby Shari Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital (SMHS), where doctors on duty declared him dead on arrival.
A joint team of security forces launched a Cordon and Search Operation in the area to nab the assailants, top police and CRPF officials arrived at the spot of crime to assess the situation, said sources.
Kashmir Zone Police in a tweet said that, “terrorists fired upon the owner of Bindroo Medicate namely Shri Makhan Lal Bindroo near Iqbal Park Srinagar. He was shifted to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Area cordoned off and search to nab the terrorists is going on.
Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah in a tweet said that, “What terrible news! He was a very kind man. I’ve been told he never left during the height of militancy and remained with his shop open. I condemn this killing in the strongest possible terms and convey my heartfelt condolences to his family. God bless his soul.
PC Chief, Sajad Lone said that the fatal attack against the owner of Bindroo medicates is outrageous and unacceptable. I knew the gentleman personally. He never left the valley, and terrorists made him pay for that, may he live in peace, said in a tweet.
While gunmen, suspected to be militants on Tuesday evening shot dead a non-local person in Lalbazar area of Srinagar.
Police said that unidentified gunmen, possibly militants, fired at the person, a roadside vendor, selling Bhelpuri. He died on the spot. The whole area has been cordoned off to nab the attackers in Srinagar city.
Meanwhile reports said that the gunmen fired upon one civilian at Shahgund Hajin in Bandipora, leaving him critically injured.
He was removed to hospital but succumbed to the wounds before being admitted. The doctors, they said, declared him brought dead on arrival, the deceased was identified as Mohammad Shafi.
This is the third attack within a few hours in the Valley. Earlier gunmen shot dead owner of Bindroo medicate Makhan Lal (M L) Bindroo at Iqbal Park here and a non-local vendor Virender Paswan near Madina Chowk Lalbazar Srinagar and a civilian in Bandipora district.
