| Matches under `low lights’ | | | EARKT TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 4: Due to the faulty lighting system, a number of matches played under `low light’ in the afternoon session on the second day of the four-day North Zone Inter-University Table Tennis Tournament organized by University of Jammu at Indoor Hall on the campus, here. Of total four tables, three were without specially arranged lighting system thus making it inconvenient for Universities to complete in their crucial second round games. “Of course the low light on the table affects the performance of the players. Every match is important, so the organizers should see that there should be proper lighting arrangements,” accompanying the Punjab Technical University (PTU) team, Mahesh and Sunita Thakur opined while interacting with SAN. When contacted Director Physical Education of the hosts University of Jammu, Prof Lokesh Verma said, “Everything is in place. The lights on three tables got disrupted due to some fault in the supply line, so it will take some to concerned people in repairing the same.” He informed that except for lighting fault, everything is up to the mark. “We are being appreciated by the visiting teams for state of the art playing arena and arrangements for comfortable stay of the players. I hope it will go a long way in building JU’s reputation,” Prof Verma mentioned. Meanwhile, the visiting Universities expressed their displeasure over the absenteeism in the competitions. “A number of Universities have not reported even after confirming their entries, which is not a healthy sign. Once you have submitted the entry you must come and compete in true spirit of the sports,” said Sunita Thakur. |
