JAMMU, Nov 4: Jammu City and its adjoining areas have been put on high alert as the BSF authorities claimed to have foiled major infiltration bid by heavily armed infiltrators along the International Border with Pakistan near Durga post at Makwal late last night.
Official sources said the infiltration bid was apparently supported by Pak rangers. Automatic weapons, rifle grenades and rockets were used by the infiltrators to target Indian posts in the sector, BSF IG AK Surolia said.
Two BSF jawans were also injured during exchange of firing which continued for over one and half hour, BSF authorities said after carrying out an on the spot visit to the sector.

This is the third major infiltration bid by the trained infiltrators in the same sector. IG BSF said that the militants forcibly tried to infiltrate but alert jawans prevented the infiltration and retaliated the fire forcing the infiltrators to head back. He said in view of the Assembly elections in the state, the jawans of border security force are maintaining a tight vigil along the border and would not allow any infiltrator to breach the barbed wire fence.
