KVK Reasi farmer gets 'Progressive Beekeeper Award' | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 16: S Gurdev Singh, a resident of Bharakh village in Pouni block of Reasi district of J&K and a progressive farmer of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) has been honoured with the 'Progressive Beekeeper Award' during the Northern India Regional Agriculture Fair-2021 held recently at SKUAST-J. Singh received the award from Union Minister Dr. Jitendera Singh and Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-J, Prof. J P Sharma. It is worthwhile to mention here that Singh has established a beekeeping unit at his farm under the technical guidelines of KVK, Reasi and Division of Entomology, SKUAST-J and producing the quality honey. He is the retired MES employee who has emerged as an innovative farmer of his area by beating all the constraints. He has established a fruit orchard in which he grows mango, aonla, guava, litchi etc. plants of improved and hybrid varieties. Initially he was using the traditional technologies at his farm with the least profits. Then he developed a good rapport with the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi scientists which helped him a lot. A series of visits were made by KVK scientists at his farm and upgraded his technical knowledge. Head of KVK, Reasi, Dr. Banarsi Lal said that the scientists regularly guide Singh on scientific cultivation of different crops and provide him all the required technical know-how. |
