After ET report, JK admin wakes up to last rites of slain non locals | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 17: A few days after the Early Times exposed that the Jammu and Kashmir Government had allegedly failed to facilitate the final journey of a Bihari Goleguppa Wala Virendra Paswan, who was recently killed by militants , the administration claimed preparedness in the wake of more such killings. On October 16, when two non locals were shot dead in Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir government instantly tweeted in this regard. “J&K govt to immediately release ex-gratia amounts to the next of kin of Arvind Kumar Shah and Sagir Ahmad, who were killed by the terrorists. The administration will also provide all the necessary assistance for their last rites. @OfficeOfLGJandK @nitishwarKumar @ByYatishYadav,” said a tweet of the Information Department. In fact the information department issued two tweets. “J&K govt to immediately release ex-gratia amounts to the next of kin of Arvind Kumar Sah and Sagir Ahmad, who were killed by the terrorists. The administration will also provide all the necessary assistance for their last rites. @OfficeOfLGJandK @nitishwarKumar @ByYatishYadav,” read the other tweet made an hour prior to the later one. The Early Times had highlighted that while Jammu and Kashmir government has been spending millions on cultural activities like musical shows and doing artwork on main roads in Kashmir, the administration had no money to send back body of Virendra Paswan to his native Bihar. On October 6, Paswan was among the three civilians killed on the fateful evening. He was shot dead while selling Gole Guppas in Lal Bazar locality of Srinagar. He was cremated at Karan Nagar cremation grounds here on October 7 afternoon while his brother and locals participated in his last rites. Paswan, a resident of Bihar, was father of five daughters and two sons. Earlier, his body was in Police Control Room Srinagar. The government had come under severe criticism for not sending his mortal remains to his native place. The bereaved, on the other hand, said they had no money to take back his body. |
